Oh, Madhurakali, the sister of Lord of Vishnu Come to us taking pity on us, Oh Mother Oh goddess of all bliss to worship whom Lord Soma (the moongod) and Lord Shukra (Venus) descend to your temple, please protect us. Oh mother who is seated in the serene Siruvachur And who, flanked by Selli and Solai, blesses the devotees You are the one, who is praised by Madana Gopala, Shiva and Brahma together. |
Notes Reference to Soma and Shukra as the temple is open only on Mondays and Fridays. Selli and Solai are the other deities, who as per legend, were the original presiding deities of the temple till Madhurakali decided to stay there along with them. Madana Gopala, Brahma & Eesha refer to the presiding deities in Perambalur where Shiva is called Brahmapuriswara and Vishnu as Madana Gopala. (Perambalur, the district headquarters) is close to Siruvachur. Its ancient name was Brahmapuri.) |
